Not a Cycle, But a Reset: The New Rules of Hospitality in a Multipolar World

IFBA to Lead Global Industry Dialogue at SIGEP Asia 2026 Singapore

Singapore, June 17th, 2026 – The International Food and Beverage Association (IFBA), in collaboration with Hospitality Alliance Singapore (HAS), will convene a high-level industry roundtable at SIGEP Asia 2026 to address a defining reality facing global hospitality and food and beverage operators:

The industry is not recovering — it is resetting.

For decades, hospitality operated within a relatively stable and globalised environment characterised by predictable supply chains, accessible labour, and scalable growth models. Today, these assumptions no longer hold.

Rising cost pressures, supply chain fragmentation, labour constraints, and rapidly evolving guest expectations are no longer isolated challenges. They are converging structural forces reshaping how hospitality businesses operate in real time.

This transformation reflects a broader shift from globalisation to a multipolar world, where economic influence, production capacity, and demand are increasingly distributed across regions. In this environment, volatility is no longer episodic — it is embedded within the system.

Adding to this complexity, recent global developments — including geopolitical tensions affecting key energy and supply routes — have demonstrated how quickly cost structures, travel demand, and supply chains can shift. For operators, these are no longer distant events, but immediate operational realities.

A Fundamental Shift in How Success Is Defined

For hospitality operators, this reset signals a critical shift:

  • Growth no longer guarantees profitability
  • Efficiency must be balanced with resilience
  • Simplicity and clarity outperform complexity
  • Operational discipline becomes a defining competitive advantage

Industry Leadership Perspective

The roundtable will be led by Cheong Hai Poh, President of IFBA and Global Hospitality Executive, bringing a practitioner-led perspective grounded in real operational challenges across international markets.

“This is not about trends or predictions. It is about recognising that the operating environment has fundamentally changed.

As President of IFBA, we see this across markets globally — operators are no longer managing businesses in stable conditions but navigating constant volatility.

In this new reality, leadership, discipline, and simplicity are not advantages — they are necessities that will define the next era of hospitality.”

Joining the discussion, Han Bin will bring a strategic regional perspective on how Asia Pacific markets are responding to these shifts.

“Across Asia Pacific, we are seeing a clear transition towards stronger regional ecosystems.

While global volatility continues to rise, regional collaboration, partnerships, and integration will serve as key stabilising forces.

The future of hospitality will be defined by how effectively operators balance global awareness with local execution.”

A Different Kind of Industry Conversation

Unlike traditional conference formats, the SIGEP roundtable will focus on experience-led dialogue, bringing together operators, chefs, suppliers, and educators to translate global complexity into practical, actionable insights.

No presentations. No theory. Only real conversations grounded in operational reality.

Closing Statement

Those who adapt will remain relevant. Those who simplify and lead with discipline will define the future of hospitality.
